Cycling or hiking

Whether by bike or on foot, there are many beautiful landscapes to discover around Burgerbrug.

Schoorlse Duinen (Dunes of Schoorl); Discover the highest and widest hill climbing sand dunes in The Netherlands. More than 60 kilometers of hiking and cycling paths are waiting for you to discover one of the most beautiful nature reserves in The Netherlands.

De Hondsbosse Duinen; It took two years, between 2014  and 2015, and a lot of effort, but the result is stunning: to anticipate the rising sea levels the the old dike was not simply made higher, but instead was covered with new dunes and a new beach is created. The result is a better protection of the land and an amazing recreational area. Take a bike to cycle along the new dunes or just take a (long) walk along the beach. Start in Petten, end in Camperduin and enjoy the new laguna. Or start in Camperduin and end in Petten with a well-deserved visit to Zee&Zo.

Nature reserve “Zwanenwater” (Swan lake); Swan lake is a large and unique nature reserve, well worth a visit. It is located south of Callantsoog.

West Friese Omringdijk;  This dike was build round 400 years ago to protect the area from floods. It was a major undertaking at the time and walking along any part of the dike now, it still leaves a lasting impression. The dike is largely intact and can be walked, cycled or driven by car for most of it’s length.

Walking around Burgerbrug: In and around Burgerbrug you will find walking routes that will lead you along and over farmers land. Be aware that you are a guest on their land.

Mountainbiking: you will find one of the best mountainbike trials in the country in the dunes of Schoorl.
